Non è semplice trovare libri che parlino di persone transgender, e le mie ricerche hanno portato alla luce solo autori stranieri (in particolare autori NUOVISSIMI americani). Ho acquistato questo libro quest' estate perché sono da sempre un grande fan di storie "adolescenziali" e, vedere una rappresentazione queer in una trama che generalmente vede come protagonisti solo coppie eterosessuali e cisgender (nulla in contrario ovviamente a questo tipo di rappresentazione), è stata una bella sensazione. Purtroppo però il prodotto finale non mi ha convinto. Magari un giovane ragazzo transgender (o una qualsiasi persona queer agli inizi della scoperta di se) potrà apprezzarlo: perché i sogni da highschool americana li abbiamo fantasticati tutti, e credo che tutti abbiano bisogno di rappresentazione. Una critica che ritengo sia giusto portare alla luce riguarda uno dei protagonisti, Luke. Viene detto che Luke è un ragazzo autistico ma non viene mai spiegato lo spettro in cui si trova. Non sono un esperto in questo campo ma non credo che la rappresentazione dell' autismo di questo personaggio sia completa. L'autore ha voluto (a mio dire) aprire troppe parentesi e non è stato in grado di dare a tutte la giusta rappresentazione.
